Before you come in

Your bridal appointment: the complete guide

Your appointment is booked and the day to pick your gown is going to be an exciting one. Here is everything our team wishes every bride knew beforehand — about ten minutes of reading, and it makes a real difference.

What to expect

You have got the ring, and now you need the dress. Here is how the appointment actually runs.

Before you arrive. We will have a short pre-appointment conversation — what you are picturing, your venue, your date, and your budget. This is also where you can send us your inspiration. It means we are not starting cold.

When you get here. You will have a stylist who is yours for the appointment, and a dressing room that is yours. Not a rail and a curtain shared with two other parties.

Trying on. Your stylist pulls from the floor based on what you have told us and what you react to. Expect to be surprised — the dress most people leave with is frequently not the silhouette they walked in describing. That is normal and it is part of why doing this in person matters.

Honest feedback. We will hype you up when it is a yes and redirect when it is a no. If a dress is not doing you any favours, you will hear it — kindly, but you will hear it. That is the job.

If you find it. Because we sell off the rack, the dress goes home with you. No six-month order window. We will talk through alterations, timing and what happens next before you leave.

If you do not. Also completely fine. Nobody is going to pressure you into a deposit to make the appointment feel worth it.

You may bring up to four guests to a standard appointment. The premium appointments allow more.

What to bring

To make sure your appointment is fun, productive and zero stress, here is what to bring — and what really matters.

Inspiration. Bringing inspiration helps us get inside your vision faster, but do not overthink it. Pinterest boards, saved Instagram posts, screenshots, even venue photos all work. Share them during your pre-appointment conversation, send them ahead, or just pull them up when you arrive. Not sure what you want yet? Totally fine — venue details, décor ideas, or the overall vibe give us plenty to work with.

Proper undergarments. You do not need the perfect bra yet, that comes later. But feeling confident matters. We recommend a supportive nude strapless or convertible bra, seamless nude underwear, and any shapewear you already know you like. Comfort equals confidence, and confidence makes this much more fun.

Hair ties and clips. You want to see the dress and yourself clearly. A hair tie or clip lets you sweep your hair back or try it up, which helps you picture the whole wedding-day look — especially if you are considering an updo.

Appropriate shoes. Already have your wedding shoes? Bring them. If not, bring something similar in height to what you plan to wear, so you can see how the dress really hits and how it moves.

Your squad. A few trusted people who know you, will hype you up, and will be honest. Less is more — too many opinions muddy the moment. Up to four guests on a standard appointment.

A realistic budget. Have a general idea of what you would like to spend, and leave room for alterations, a veil and accessories. We will help you navigate it, but clarity up front makes the whole thing smoother.

You show up, and we will handle the rest.

Setting your budget

Setting a dress budget might not be the most glamorous part of wedding planning, but it is one of the most important. Coming in with a clear number keeps the appointment fun and focused, and lets your stylist guide you toward dresses you will love and feel good about buying.

Your dress budget is more than just the gown. Here is how we recommend breaking it down.

The dress. Our gowns typically range from $1,500 to $4,000, with the sweet spot around $1,800 to $2,000. With over a thousand gowns in store we can almost always find something that fits both your vision and your number — knowing your comfortable maximum ahead of time is the key. We also offer a payment plan with a 50% deposit to make it more manageable.

Accessories. Veils, jewellery, headpieces, belts and shoes. These finishing touches pull the look together, and they should be in the budget rather than a surprise at the end.

Alterations. Every gown — yes, every one — needs alterations. If you alter with us, budget around $500. That covers roughly three fittings and up to 30 hours of hands-on work by our in-house team, to make the dress fit like it was made for you. More about alterations

Customisations. Want to add sleeves, adjust a neckline, or make the gown uniquely yours? Many dresses can be customised, but those changes carry an additional cost on top of standard alterations.

Sales tax. Iowa state sales tax of 7% applies and should be factored into your total.

A little planning up front goes a long way, and we are here to help you navigate every step of it.

Who to bring along

Now it is time to decide who gets a front-row seat for the "say yes" moment. It is tempting to invite everyone you love, but trust us: the right people matter more than the number of people.

Family. Parents, siblings, grandparents or close family often play an important role in this decision. Having the people who truly know you there can make the moment more meaningful.

Your bridal party. They are standing beside you on the day, so it makes sense to have them when you choose the dress. Expect honest feedback, hype energy, and plenty of oohs and aahs.

Your fiancé's family. Not the whole crew — but maybe a sister or their mom, if that feels right to you. It can be a really special way to include them.

Less is more. Here is the honest truth: too many opinions turn an exciting appointment into an overwhelming one. The goal is happy tears, not stress tears. Keep the group supportive, focused, and aligned with you.

You may bring up to four guests to a standard bridal appointment. If you want a bigger group, upgrade to one of our premium appointments — they allow up to ten, or unlimited on the private experience.
